David “Gus” Kennedy (Sept. 3,1950 – May 24,2023) David “Gus” Kennedy was the Executive Director of Communities in Schools of Hidalgo County for over 30 years. Through the ups and downs, Gus made time for anyone and everyone. He found joy in making people laugh and he had the innate ability to bring a smile to even the most tortured of souls. His favorite achievement was the establishment of the CIS Summer Circus: an annual theater program designed to bring the arts to at-risk Rio Grande Valley students; a summer program that continues today in his memory. Even though he shuffled off this mortal coil in 2023, Gus Kennedy’s legacy of love, laughter, and generosity lives on through CIS Hidalgo.
